All About Keeping the Fireplace Clean
During winter seasons or during rainy seasons when it seems to be so cold all around, you would normally want something that would keep you warm and comfortable. Naturally, when you go home, you would want to rest and relax after a very busy day at work or at school. But this will not be possible when you feel so cold even inside your home. This is when a fireplace becomes very helpful and useful. Having a fireplace at home means having a good and effective source of heat. Thus, you won’t have to worry even if snow is all over the place or even if it’s raining very hard outside knowing that there is something to keep your warm in your home. But just like any other stuff inside the house like furniture and appliances, there is also a need for you to regularly clean the fireplace to prevent dirt and dust build up. This is also for the purpose of maintaining the clean and pleasant look of your fireplace which can affect the overall look of your home.
When it comes to cleaning the fireplace, you should do the job right by knowing the do’s and don’ts. You have to remember that cleaning a fireplace is not the same as cleaning the floor, walls, ceiling, windows, etc. To properly clean the fireplace, you should use an appropriate cleaning solution that will not cause any damages on it or possible leave a flammable residue, perhaps you might to consider a non-abrasive cleaner. Another thing that you should avoid is to use water to wash the fireplace or to sweep away the ashes. Using water would only make the ashes into a paste-like substance which will be more difficult to handle. Sweeping on the other hand will just spread the ashes around the area. After using the fireplace, you should wait for 12 hours before you can clean it and you should use a shovel to take the ashes out from the firebox or a wet/dry vacuum cleaner.
When you’re done dealing with the ashes, you can then proceed to cleaning the other parts like the wall, file screen and other fireplace tools. The walls can be scrubbed using a wire brush and the file screen using a cloth together with warm water. And to complete the cleaning process, you need to clean other fireplace tools as well using a cloth and warm water also like what you’ve done with the screen.
Cleaning the fireplace is indeed necessary to make sure that it is working properly. Aside from the fact that it is a way of removing all the things that should be removed like ashes, dust and dirt, you will also have a chance to check on all the parts of the fireplace. In this way, you will be able to determine if there are damaged or broken parts that should be repaired, fixed or replaced with new ones. Although cleaning the fireplace may not be a very easy job to do, you will be the one who can mainly benefit from it.
