Ants Only Fly For a Few Days
There are many flying ants in our midst which can cause us all kinds of problems. The majority of us get a little scared when we see a flying ant, but this is not always necessary for sure. The dangerous ones, like the army and bullet kind, along with the very sadistic fire variety, are known to cause severe problems, but the majority of them are just not that dangerous.
These creatures get just about anywhere and will be found in most places around the world. They cannot survive severe cold of course, so this is why they are not found on the polar regions of earth. However, all else is fair game so they make their homes just about anywhere they like! They usually come into our homes, as uninvited guests, looking for a free meal. They get water in here too since most of us have it in abundance. F one thinks about one crumb or one drop of water, imagine how far that will go for these tiny creatures? Even the cleanest of people will leave something around the place, and this is what they come in for.
Whenever we see these creatures around, we often equate them with eating wood etc. This is often a misconception that people have since it is the destructive termite that does all the damage. The carpenter variety of these tiny creatures merely digs some tunnels in wood to hide out. They really do not do so much damage but most of us panic when we see dust that has been removed from the wood. They build a gallery inside the wood but do no further damage to it.
In fact, if they come across a termite while they are excavating, this is their next meal so they could actually be helping us without us really knowing it.
The odd thing about this is that if the termite sees the carpenter at work, it will not venture into that place anyway so maybe we should not be so quick to turf them out of their adopted homes! Although, most of us go running for exterminators every time we see these creatures, sometimes this is not necessary. Of course, depending on the variety, if people are getting stung or bitten, then something has to be done immediately. Finding the right technician then, who can identify which creature is causing the problem, is paramount if the right chemicals are to be used.
The confusion comes when we see them with wings but this is only a short stage in their development. They get the ability to fly because they are looking to colonize somewhere other than where they are born so this only lasts a few days at most. Once they have found somewhere suitable, and this is often around our homes, they drop off their apparatus and resort to walking again. It is at this stage that most of us start to panic and look for experts to get rid of them. Depending on the variety though, this is not an urgent task for sure.
