Bible Verse Discussion – a Christian Stand on Abortion

The Christian world is clear on its stand against abortion. Abortion goes against God\’s gift of procreation. Abortion is un-Christian. Abortion is killing. Abortion is murder. Abortion is a sin. I have yet to talk to a devout Christian who sees abortion as a true solution to poverty and overpopulation. They say the best cure is prevention, and the same thing applies to pregnancy. Yet what if pregnancy can\’t be avoided? Can abortion fix the situation even if it goes against God\’s will?

Proverbs 24: 11-12 – “Rescue those who are unjustly sentenced to death; don’t stand back and let them die. Don’t try to avoid responsibility by saying you didn’t know about it. For God knows all hearts and he sees you. He keeps watch over your souls, and he knows you know. And he will judge all people according to what they have done.” (NLT)

The worst place to be in when it comes to the topic of abortion is in the shoes of the expecting teenage mother. Who do you believe at a time like this? All your life you were taught that abortion is evil, and yet right now it seems to be the only feasible solution out of this mess you\’ve put yourself in.

The big discussion about abortion hinges on whether you believe life begins at conception or after the birth of the baby from its mother\’s womb.

For many Christians, life begins as soon as the father\’s sperm cell meets the mother\’s egg cell. The life of the baby begins at this very moment. In this regard, abortion is a grave sin that must never be committed by another fellow human being, most especially the mother of the infant. Abortion becomes a convenient replacement term for murder.

But others choose to believe differently. They say life during conception isn\’t fully formed yet as the baby cannot survive outside the protection of it\’s mother\’s womb. The life of the infant is still fully dependent on the life of its mother. If you take this stance, then abortion is not un-Christian and therefore a sound solution to the problem of unwanted pregnancy.

Who do you believe?

My one true suggestion for you is to look deep into the Bible for the comforting words of God regarding abortions and unwanted pregnancies. As a Christian, it is your duty to consult God whenever you feel lost in your worldly problems. God will help you find the right path through Biblical quotes and verses, but only if you allow Him into your life. If you ever find yourself in this troubling situation, find a quiet time to just sit down and read the Bible for spiritual and emotional guidance.

I\’ll leave you with a few Bible quotes that might just help you figure out your stand on abortion.

Genesis 9:5 – “Murder is forbidden.” (NLT)

Psalm 51:5 – “I was born a sinner – yes, from the moment my mother conceived me.” (NLT)

Jeremiah 1:5 – “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb.” (NLT)
