Covering Up Saves All Kinds of Wood

It is unusual to say the least but some homes sport a wonderful keyboard so that everyone can enjoy the sound of real music from time to time. However, modern systems plays havoc with old woods it may be a good idea to get a good piano cover made up to shield it against such things. Piano bench covers too can be made, or are available in stock, to complete the look and stop people from touching or interfering with the wood unnecessarily. Since time immemorial people have used all kinds of things to put on these magnificent keyboards to keep them looking good. In Victorian times, the fashion was to cover up the legs with a beautiful silk shawl since it reminded the men folk of looking at the legs of ladies!

These days though it is the utilities in the house that causes untold damage to the wood so this is the reason to protect them. Heating ducts and those that keep the room cool will all draw moisture from the air. Wood used to be a living thing so if there is no moisture around it is obvious that it will one day crack. Once the wood is cracked, it can cause the sound to be distorted and who wants to play an instrument that is off key?

One should also be aware of how the sun can damage good wood too. This is also why windows were heavily curtained in the Victorian era since plants, skin and all that wonderful wood was to be protected at all costs. Brown skin denoted that the person was working in the fields so this was definitely desirable in those days!

There are many sites which offer this kind of accoutrement on the internet and some will have stock sizes for particular makes and models. This is all very well and they come in different fabrics and finishes too, but for some, having one purpose made is the right way to go. Most sites offer this facility too and all the buyer has to do is to provide the correct measurements for the instrument so that one can be altered or made up from scratch.

This is a very simple procedure and involves laying out newspaper on top of the instrument, sticking it together with sticky tape and then drawing around the whole thing. Add the dimensions for the depth of the body and, hey presto, that is all that needs to be done. The same can be done for the seats too although these will most certainly have stock sizes available. These seats could be the single variety or those made to sit two people.

Lastly, even those instruments which are on public display should have some sort of protection. Kids with sticky fingers, and people who just cannot resist, will want to just get on the thing and play around. This could prove to be rather costly if care is not taken so the expense of buying a protective coat is little if this is considered.
