The big debate going on in the science community regarding sending out messages into space is whether that\’s a good idea or not. On one hand, a reply would change everything including our ideas on who we are and how we fit in the universe. On the other hand, what if the receiver of those messages is quite a bit more sophisticated than us technically and they would love to harvest us for batteries or as an appetizer. Who know which outcome is more likely with first contact but we wanted to celebrate those first brave 3000 souls that join the prepSportFantasy.com community in spite of the dangers of being eaten. Actually, the team is running pretty lean on cannibals but thrill seekers still need some props so we created the exclusive First Contact prep sports badge.

So what\’s a sports badge in our world, and for that matter, what\’s an exclusive badge? When a high school athlete or fan joins the community, they are able to customize certain elements of their player or fan profile page. One of the things they can customize is their badge. The badge is a little piece of prep sports bling to show the world what they\’re into. For the first sport of the season, high school football, it can be about hitting, catching, throwing, or just plain being a bad-ass. The exclusive ones go a step further. Only certain players can get access to the exclusive badges and it\’s usually first come, first serve. The first badge are rolling out for initial accounts based on increments of 1000 accounts. The First Contact badge is for the first 3000 accounts. Let\’s take a look at it.

The First Contact badge is probably one of our favorites for a few reason. First, you have a scratchy, 50\’s style background in muted colors that filcker like an old sic-fi move. Across the badge, a equally schlocky flyiing saucer moves across the screen in disjointed fits and starts. As it makes it way across, the head of an alien rises from the bottom on the left side of the screen. His eyes glow as they are replaced by football in the exact shape of the original eye. The title \”First Contact\” is in the center of the screen and waxes and wanes with the passing saucer. We love the campy look of it but more importantly, we love the alien. He\’s kinda funny looking with a resemblance to some kooky, Floridian retiree. That\’s the stuff we love…a little touch of strange. We like the character so much that he became a member of the D League named Guillaume (he\’s from France). You\’ll see lots of Guillaume on the site and there\’s a good chance he\’ll be wearing a flat bill cap…because he roll like that.

First Contact, the high school sports badge, celebrate the first time we find something new…something really cool that we had no idea existed before that moment.
