A great way to let both children and adults interact is to have them play some word games, word searches, and do crossword puzzles, all with a patriotic theme. Young and old alike will be able to enjoy these types of games.
Locate The Firecrackers
Prior to party time, make some snazzy looking firecrackers out of various colored card stock and decorate them using markers and glitter. Hide them prior to your guests arriving so no one knows about their locations. At game time, give each participant a red, white & blue bag to put all the firecrackers they find into their bag. Whoever finds the most in the allotted time shall be the winner.
Variation: This is a game that could easily be played in couples or teams. All you would need to do is total up the firecrackers collected for the respective teams and that team would be the winner.
Toss That Star
Fill empty plastic bottles with sand to give them weight. Decorate the outside of the bottles by taping on a festive sleeve made out of paper. For example, you could have one be red, white and blue stripes, another could be stars, etc.
Line up the bottles in various positions and a lot a point value to each one. Give each child 3 paper plates that have various sized stars cut out of the center. The object of the game is to try and toss a \”star\” over the neck of a bottle. When this is accomplished, whatever points are allocated to that bottle will be given. Whoever has the most points at the end of the game shall be the winner. Ties will occur and playoffs will need to be done. To make each round a little more challenging, you can move the bottles further away.
ABA Basketball
To burn off some of that excess energy, how about a good old-fashioned game of basketball? All you need to do is be sure the teams are dressed in their patriotic best and that they use an ABA red, white and blue basketball.
