How to Get Rid of Existing Crickets in Your Pool Area
Crickets are nocturnal insects that many individuals find irritating due to their constant chirping especially during the night when people take their rest and struggle to catch their sleep. Although these insects are in general not harmful to humans and animals, crickets tend to get on the nerves of many people. Many pool owners get surprised by how many of these insects manage to make the swimming pool area their habitat.
Crickets are fond of environments such as the pool area where they can get access to water when they need to and to cool their body during the hot weather. However, getting them out of your place is as easy as cleaning up your lawn of weeds. The process of keeping crickets away from your swimming pool needs to be done regularly like when you are pulling weeds out of your lawn.
Here are some tips on how to maintain your swimming pool area cricket free all year round:
Regular trimming – make sure that the grass near your pool is always trimmed down to its proper length especially during the summer season as these types of insects tend to cover on the thick grass of your lawn. Crickets stay in the shade during the day and goes out at night in search for food. Although these pests will eat chicken and hog feeds, they are actually carnivorous and prey on smaller insects to satisfy their hunger. If there are weeds in your lawn, don’t forget to get rid of them as you trim the grass. This process of trimming enables you to have a clear visual on the crickets making it easier for you to pick them up or kill them.
Keep the area dry – most species of crickets thrive on damp environments such as your pool deck as it gets wet most of the time due to the splashing of water when someone is swimming in the pool. As much as possible, keep this area dry after you are done using the pool for the day as leaving it wet at night will only attract crickets to make it their suitable place to stay.
Clean the area regularly – remove any leftover food after you are done eating in the pool area to discourage drawing the attention of any type of insect into that place. Aside from the food, always keep the area clean at all times to deny any place for the insects to hide and breed. Newspapers can be a good place for these pests to stay and propagate that’s why it is better if you get rid of food and trash as well the newspapers after using the pool.
You can also use insecticides if you are after a fast result although this can have some side effects when used improperly. Always remember to read the instructions on the label of the product and follow up to the letter to avoid having problems when using it against the pests near the pool. Install the pool cover before you spray any chemical product near your pool to prevent the insecticide from getting into the pool.
