You must be able to interact with your employees in order to get the most from them but more importantly, you have to be able to meet the public head on. You have to be intuitive and empathetic to their needs. Knowing what the public wants and giving it to them is what running a restaurant is all about.
Multitasking Is A Must
If you can\’t do twenty things at once, you are considering the wrong business. As a restaurant owner, you cannot just lock yourself in your office and tackle each task one at a time. You need to maintain or repair equipment, speak to the public on demand, carefully monitor restaurant inventory, make business decisions, and work with your staff as a team and on an individual basis all while answering the phone and dealing with vendors. Problems with seating and parking arise all the time and advertising must be managed as well. All of this and much more can and will happen in just a few hours of your day. There is always something that has to be taken care of instantly or it gets worse. This leads us to the next quality on the list… stress.

Some people do not handle stress very well. If one or two things go wrong, they fold like an accordion. If this sounds like you, beware. Finally, you have to be a leader. A restaurant team is a highly specialized group of people who work together like a machine; however, the entire structure can fall apart if they do not have a leader. It has to be someone to whom the team can look up. It has to be someone who works with people, can multitask before their eyes, and allows stress roll off them like water on a duck.
