There are many beautiful animals living in the wild, but not all of them have manners when it comes to leaving our well tended gardens alone. In fact, some of these creatures can devastate a garden very quickly and this is why people are always looking for ways to keep them out. Some try things like deer repellent plants, while others will try just about any kind of deer repellent scheme to keep these wonderful creatures where they belong, in the wild!

There are some sprays on the market which can be used all over the garden. However, this has to be repeated over and over again, particularly in the rainy season. It takes someone completely dedicated to do this and most of us simply do not have the time for this. Other than putting up fences, and these must be high enough to stop them jumping over, there are other ways to discourage them. The electric fence is a favorite, but this will certainly give other animals a sting too. Even young kids have to be warned off from wandering so this may not be the ideal solution. Some use the electrified sticks to put here and there outside the boundaries of the garden and these will shock the animals into going somewhere else to eat. Both of these last methods can be a little expensive to run since they both use power. However, it is a more permanent solution to the problem.

Of course, we all love to observe these wonderful creatures from our back yards or windows, but there has to be a line drawn otherwise all our hard work goes for nothing. We could encourage them to go elsewhere by providing them with a lovely space somewhere else where we put some spare vegetables etc to grow. But this will also take work to keep it going.

Sprays are available for those who would prefer this, and this is quite effective since it uses chemicals which they do not like at all. However, how many of us want to spray our vegetables with who knows what? This rather defeats the objective of being organic but they can be used in the ever increasing need to keep wild animals away from what we grow. We could also grow something which they are not attracted to also. However, if it is not what we want to grow, can we make the sacrifice? Who wants to sweat planting up things merely because a certain animal does not like them?

If a wall is to be the solution, this must be high enough so that they will not clamber over. However, this too will upset some people because it rather ruins the vista from our back yard. An alternative is to get fencing that can be seen through, but relatively fades from the eye line if put in correctly. This could be the only lasting cure to the problem but some may want to try out a mixture of all of the above solutions until they find the right mix.
