If we are clever people, why do we normally end up running away from tiny creatures, like flying ants, whenever they are spotted? These little guys are just looking for a new place to build their homes and do little damage to our houses. Depending on the variety of flying ant, it is not always necessary to fumigate right away anyway since they may well protect the home from termites. It is these creatures that munch their way through wood at an alarming rate and not the others.

Even if the creatures set up home in our wood in the home, they often eat termites as they find them. In fact, if a termite sees these others hanging around, they go off somewhere else to eat wood. This is why it is not always necessary to obliterate every creature that we see. The only reason that they come into the place is to look for what we discard. Drops of water or crumbs of food are often left about the place and are too small for us to notice them. To these creatures though, this is a feast since they are usually so tiny.

If someone is absolutely determined to be rid of them though, then it is often better to call in the experts to try to identify which variety it is. They get wings when the colony is looking for somewhere else to build a home but this stage only lasts for a few days or so. However, there are some dangerous breeds that can cause all kinds of problems for pets and people alike, so identifying which one it is becomes very important.

Once it has been identified, the exterminator will certainly know the next step to take and this could be anything from spraying or laying powder down around the home. Those that have gardens that come right up to the walls of the house may also be required to do something about this situation. In fact, it is stopping them coming into the home that is important. Many of us see lines of these little creatures crawling all over walls and patios and these are the foragers looking for food. Even the leaf cutter varieties can lay waste to some wonderful plants so the garden too may need sorting out. However, the problem that most of us have is that seeing crawling creatures equates to a dirty home in our eyes and it is this that sends us running for the phone book.

These little guys will also tend to come in wave particularly when it is hot and dry. They need water too and, since we have it on tap all the time, they will always follow humans wherever we go. Making sure to clean up after ourselves is just one step to take to keep them out, but then there is also the exterminator who can lay down a chemical barrier too. Whichever method is used, it is certain that the next lot will still come in, so getting regular treatments is probably on the cards.
