Make Your Own Cheap Favors For Your Next Celebration
It\’s been a long-standing tradition to give small gifts to the guests after a celebration as a form of thanks. It doesn\’t matter whether it was a shower for a bride or a baby, a wedding, a baptism, holiday gathering, or even a birthday party or a special anniversary. But while other people try to out-do each other giving out lavish and expensive favors, you don\’t need to. You can make your own cheap favors for your next celebration and still make it unique and personal.
Favors can be divided into two categories: edible and non-edible. Your choices of what to give will depend on your taste and your budget. The most memorable favors would be those that reflect the giver\’s favorite things, the theme of the party, or something that symbolizes the giver himself.
If the giver is famous for making a certain food item, like jams, jellies, or a certain cake or cookie, there will be no complaints if this is the party favor. Can you imagine anyone turning down a little round jar of homemade strawberry preserves topped with a piece of leaf-green felt cut to look like the top of a strawberry, tied up with a dotted leaf-green and white ribbon, and decorated with a gift tag that looks like a strawberry blossom?
Or what about a container of home-grown honey packed into a miniature beehive style honey jar with a matching dipper all held together with a happy yellow ribbon and embellished with an artificial honeybee? It\’s something cheap, unusual, and definitely a favor that nobody can just purchase off the shelf.
A terrific non-edible gift would be confetti embedded with wildflower seeds. It\’s simple enough to make recycled paper embedded with assorted wildflower seeds and cut out into your preferred shapes with a decorative hole punch. These bits of confetti can be packed into little parchment envelopes and sealed shut with a sticker printed off your computer printer. Decorated with strands of paper ribbons and a paper blossom, it would be a perfect favor displayed in a flat rattan basket for the eco-conscious celebrant.
Why not give decorative notepads away? Tiny notepads can be embellished with a piece of printed wrapping paper glued onto the cardboard back and top, folding the rest of the paper over the front and reaching about half an inch over onto the back to cover the pad entirely. Hold the paper in place with a coordinating length of ribbon tied up in a pretty bow. Simply add a gift tag and maybe a pretty pen to boot.
Or you can simply embellish something store-bought in order to make it your own. A purchased mint tin or tiny atomizer of perfume or room scent will look more “yours” with color-coordinated baby ribbons and embellishments like tiny fabric fruits, miniature toys, or contrasted with a gigantic silk flower instead.
It\’s great to make your own cheap favors because you can make them customized to your celebration. It\’s a way to share your passions with your guests and show them how much planning went into the occasion. What a wonderful way to show your guests how much you appreciate their making your party great.
