Monitoring an employee is usually just good business sense, and it can be accomplished quite a few different ways. Many places have installed cameras to watch not only their employees, but customers too. This works great if you run a store or something like that. It does not work so well if you are in an office setting though. It definitely doesn’t work for an online business either. For that you are going to need a completely different method all together.

Because the workplaces vary, the ways for monitoring an employee vary as well. Some people actually tend to watch the people who work for them, or hire supervisors to do that job for them. This method works well for construction crews and fabrications plants. Anywhere where you have a group of employees in one set area this will work well usually. Of course you will have to hire the right person for a supervisor and trust their judgment as well or else you are just wasting money paying them.

Some office settings use computer programs and safety features to monitor an employee. This is effective because most of the work done in the office settings is done on the computer. They have things like passwords and such to keep track of all the work a certain person does. This allows them to see what the person is working on and what they actually did for each person. Doctor\’s offices and insurance offices use this type of system with great effects.

However, there is a new era of business that is evolving; the internet business. Many, many people are going online to make money, and some of them are hiring different people to do some of the work for them. This presents a problem for some of the conventional means of monitoring an employee because laptops are being used more frequently. It is rather difficult to install a camera into an office if the office is wherever you log into the web at. It could be a hotel room one day, and the beach the next. There is no way you can keep track of an office that always moves. Sure, you might be able to know where they are with a GPS location, but you won’t know what they are doing.

Because of this there are new computer programs out there that can be installed onto computers (even laptops) that allow monitoring an employee no matter where they are. You can see everything that they did on the computer and even control the data that they are allowed to have on the laptop. This allows you to make sure certain information is not shared. This makes it easier for those in control of the business to actually make sure that the people who work for them are doing what they are supposed to do. Some software even allows you to log into your account and see in real-time what your different workers are doing at that moment on their computers.
