Plan Your Summer Vacation With Bucket Lists
If you have ever caught the 2007 Rob Reiner-directed film “The Bucket List,” you have probably already considered making your own list. In the movie, Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman’s characters struggle to complete all the things they have always wanted to do before they kick the bucket, so to speak. Even if you have never seen the movie, you may have a few bucket list ideas already in the works.
Any time is the right time to put such a list into action but unfortunately most people only do so after experiencing a life-changing situation, such as divorce or a near-death experience. Really, it is better to make your list as soon as possible; you will want to have as much time as you need to accomplish everything you have ever wanted to do.
If you do find that you have just gone through something you would rather not have, a summer bucket list may be in order. In fact, it may be just the thing to perk up your spirits. A list of things you want to do this summer is the perfect way to warm up to a more ambitious list. So, ask yourself: what would you love more than anything to do this summer? Is there a seasonal task you have always wanted to take part in, but never had the opportunity to do so? Do you think you would finally be up for it this year?
There is no better way to kick start a summer than with a list of fun activities. There are endless reasons as to why many of us never get around to making time for fun activities, but all that can change with a bit of effort. A summer list will not only give you and your family something to look forward to but it will lighten your mood considerably and greatly inspire you to lead the life you have always dreamed of leading. If you have kids, do not be shy about inviting them to help make your list.
To get started, consider the things you normally enjoy during summertime, and begin the list by writing down your favorite summertime activities. Next, think about something new that you have yet to do or try; an event or activity you would like to attend. Check out local event listings, which can be found in the local sections of newspapers, city guides, tourist centers or recreation centers. You may discover resources you never knew existed such as free music concerts, small theater companies, seasonal festivals or farmers markets, marathon races, parades and sporting events.
Plan a day trip outside your usual realm of experience; city dwellers may find that a trip to a nearby beach town or vineyard was just what the doctor ordered. Discuss summer activities with friends, family, co-workers and acquaintances outside your usual social circle. Check out your work schedule and begin planning accordingly. Physically writing plans on the calendar make you much more likely to actually follow through with them. Remember that we all deserve a bit of fun in our lives and take time out this summer to do those positive things you have always wanted to enjoy.
