Teachers are extremely busy. There is no doubt about it, one of the most hectic jobs around is being a teacher. There are so many things for a teacher to worry about. You need to come up with lesson plans every day, you have to come up with homework assignments, and then grade those homework assignments. You have to create projects and assign papers, and then grade those as well. Teachers have to organize and make tests and quizzes and, you guessed it, collect and grade those for the students.

Add to that the fact that teachers have to worry about satisfying students, teachers, and their bosses, not to mention local, state, and national standards for teaching and education, and also that teachers have to do a lot of their work at home, and you can see how, when you are a teacher, the last thing you need is another thing to think or worry about. There is barely enough time in the day as it is to fit in everything that is already required of you, let alone to add in another thing.

Nevertheless, it is still true that students need some time, every so often, outside the classroom. The time that students spend in a classroom with a teacher is very precious, but attending events such as school assemblies is still an important part of the educational process for students and teachers. When students physically leave the classroom and go somewhere else to learn new material from a new person in a new place, the variety is revitalizing and allows them to learn more during the experience, and also to be ready to learn more on their return.

Students can not learn everything in the classroom. For one thing, spending all of your time in the same room with the same person teaching can be numbing. To make sure that students get the most out of their time in school, they need some variety to change things up. Going to an assembly to see a presentation or a demonstration from a different speaker can be very good because it creates a change of pace, which keeps the mind stimulated and able to absorb new information and ideas. In that, way these events can serve a double purpose, which only reinforces their value.

It is all too true that teachers have too much on their plates already, but it is still important for students to take time out of the classroom sometimes. Also, it gives teachers an hour or two to catch up on some work which they almost certainly have lying around. Then, when students return to the classroom after the assembly, they will be refreshed and ready to learn again. With so many new things and new expectations being heaped onto teachers\’ plates all the time, it is easy to throw out some of the older, and even some of the more enjoyable and relaxing aspects of education, but to do so is to rob students of a valuable experience.
