Should My Ovulation Calender Include Cervical Mucus Changes

Many couples have found that when they\’re ready to get pregnant, they want to use methods such as tracking a woman\’s fertility during the course of a month. As such, she can use a tool that\’s called an ovulation calendar. This is a tool that tracks all of her bodily changes during the course of her menstrual cycle. As many women know, a menstrual cycle goes beyond the week that she\’s having menses. A menstrual cycle starts at the beginning of menses, and it goes to a period of 28 or more days. When she begins menses again, her menstrual cycle starts again. When she uses the tools such as the ovulation calendar, she will keep track of all the changes that her body goes through in order to determine the best time of month for her to get pregnant. One of the most common ways that a woman can track when she\’s fertile and when she\’s ready to get pregnant, is through her cervical mucus. It\’s important when she\’s tracking her fertility to know about any changes in her cervical mucus. She also needs to know when her menses cycle begins, changes in her saliva, when she attempts conception, as well as her possible ovulation time. She also needs to make note of any stressors, or changes in her life, as these effect her cervical mucus as well. A woman should note that she should keep all changes on her Ovulation calendar, except for body changes. There are special graphs for her to note her daily body changes via her temperature. She should also note that if she noticed a rise in her temperature and if her body temperature stays up, then the ovulation period has passed for the month. What is cervical mucus and what does it do? * Cervical mucus is a fluid produced by glands inside the cervix * In this fluid in the cervix the sperm can stay alive for up to five days * It filters out abnormal sperm * It provides an alkaline quality to protect the sperm from the vagina\’s normal acidity * It provides a medium for the sperm to travel in to make it through the uterus and to the fallopian tube to reach the egg after ovulation How does my cervical mucus change throughout my cycle? * It is usually not present right after your period, or dry * It then progresses from tacky to creamy * During your most fertile days it is slippery, often called fertile mucus * It will even be stretchy at the height of your fertility * After ovulation it becomes dry again Some women might be confused as to what cervical mucus actually is. Some women have been trained to think that they should not have any mucus, or any discharge, but this isn\’t true. Cervical mucus is is the moisture that flows from inside of her. She will notice this moisture possibly on her undergarments, and certainly as she is bathing, or using the restroom. When a woman is tracking her fertility, she needs to take note of the consistency of her cervical mucus. The mucus will vary according to the time of month, and other external factors. For example, it\’s common for the mucus to have a dry consistency right after her menses. As the course of the month goes on, it will change to a creamy texture, and then it will become slippery, much like egg yolk. When she is experiencing these changes, a woman should make note of the consistency of her mucus, so that she can keep track of the times of the month when the mucus becomes slippery. When the mucus is slippery, this will indicate to her that she is ovulating, and this is the best time for her to attempt to become pregnant. Other things that a woman should know when she is observing her cervical mucus, as is if the mucus has an unpleasant odor or color. If either is the case, this will indicate a bacterial infection, and of course she will need to consult with her physician regarding getting treatment for her infection before she further attempts pregnancy. Other than this, a woman should keep track of when she is producing the most cervical mucus. She should also make note if there is a change in the flow of mucus, and in the texture. These are all aspects that will play a part in whether or not she can determine the best time of the month to get pregnant, and whether or not her body is healthy enough to attempt pregnancy.
