What on earth do you do when you discover that you like your date’s girlfriend or roommate more than your date?

Believe me, it happens all the time. I see this with even the best Pick Up Artist. When I was in college, my roommate, Jack, met a girl and arranged a double date. The idea was the girl was going to bring a friend and he was going to bring a friend.

I met the two girls when they showed up at the house that night before they headed out on their double date. Jack’s date, who was a blonde, had brought along a friend, who was a brunette. Jack and his buddy and the two girls then left the house. I went about my own night, was out late, and then was sound asleep when Jack came home.

I went downstairs to fix myself a cup of coffee and I saw Jack’s friend, asleep on the couch with the blonde girl. What? Then a few minutes later, Jack came downstairs with the brunette on arm. What? It was the old switcheroo. In this case, Jack was watching the brunette out on the dance floor and realized that she was the one for him.

I don’t know exactly how it all went down so smoothly for all four of them, but somehow they switched it up on the dance floor. Jack started dancing with the brunette and then they started making out. Seeing what was going on, Jack’s friend – who is a great friend – started making moves on the blonde. It has been 10 years and now Jack and his brunette, Lucy, have been married for seven years and have three kids. Jack’s friend and the blonde, however, never lasted.

So, it just goes to show you that these types of situations might be worth pursuing. I don’t think this conversation took place, but if you find yourself in a similar situation, you might want to take your buddy aside and tell him what you are thinking and see if he has any objections to you pursuing a different girl.

Ultimately, what ends up mattering in the end is either your friendship, in this case, or the potential long-term relationship you may find by trusting your instincts and pursuing the girl who seems right for you.

If Jack had been shy about going after the brunette, his life would have been completely different. He says that Lucy is the love of his life. She is no longer friends with the blonde, but that is only because they no longer live close and have grown apart.

In this instance, neither woman had a problem with it. So, it just goes to show that you sometimes have to take a chance. And when it comes to hurting the feelings of your date because you like her roommate or her friend, then you may have to take that chance. Think of it another way: you are definitely doing her a disservice by staying with her when you are actually more attracted to another woman.
