Specify Your Goals

To achieve goals one must first know exactly what his or her goals are. People usually take broad aspects of life and feel sorry for themselves because they couldn’t be successful. These broad aspects may be phases or relationships. When a person says that he wants to be successful before reaching the age of 30, what he or she means by success is very blurry. There are homeless people who feel they are successful along with multimillionaires who think they are unsuccessful. Therefore we can comfortably say that success and achievement, like beauty, are in the eye of the beholder.

Achievement is a feeling of happiness and content. Athletes feel this when they win a race or beat their opponents. Nothing is blurry in sports. Your opponents are apparent, your goals are set and you have the preparation to face obstacles and achieve your goal. When you lose, you get up and start to prepare for the next match. When you win you feel happy and content, and again start to prepare for the next match. If you can turn your life into that of an athlete it would be easier for you to enjoy your achievements and understand your mistakes.

To set your goals you can use a positive determination method. For this method you must first determine the wide picture. This means you must determine in which aspects of life you want to be successful. Let’s explain with an example. Say you want to be successful in your marriage. This is the wide picture so make it the title and start to write the things you want to achieve in your marriage. They can be simple things like “I want to go out to dinner at least once a week” or more complicated issues like “I want to find a way to make love to my wife/husband more than once a month.” These are all positive things, you like to do. Once you write down all the things that make you happy and that would make you happy, you can start to think about solutions for each of them starting from the most important one. Here, your feelings are the only determining factor about importance. Putting the list in your wallet or somewhere you can always access would help you not to forget about your decisions and plans.

When you start to achieve your goals one by one you will start to feel content and happiness. To achieve all the goals that make up one aspect of your life is generally not possible. Every team may lose and no athlete can win constantly. Achievement is the accumulation of small victories. Even when we lose in one area we add that incident to our experiences. If we tried consciously and with a plan and couldn’t be successful, we will see more clearly where we made the mistakes and why we couldn’t be successful than if failed without a game plan. However once we start to achieve goals separately, we will also feel the taste of success in whatever aspect we chose.
