The 2011 Ford Expedition
Large SUV’s are popular for many reasons; they can haul a large number of people around plus they provide lots of cargo space for sporting and camping equipment or any other gear you may have. One of the standouts in this market is the Ford Expedition; a large vehicle with sufficient room to seat eight of your best friends. In addition, the cargo space can be expanded to a whopping 131 cubic feet. Other big players in this segment include the Yukon by GMC and the Tahoe by Chevy.
There are two different styling options available; XLT and XLT premium. The premium option comes with sweet features such as a black interior, body color grille and blacked out headlamps. Unfortunately Ford’s SYNC system is not standard but it can be added at a price. The SYNC system allows you to change radio stations and utilize the phone via Bluetooth by voice. This allows for maximum safety since you can focus on the road ahead and don’t need to fumble with any knobs or buttons. If you have to drive around a lot of people on a regular basis then the Expedition would be a great choice; this auto has enough room for eat people. With the third row of seats folded back; the cargo area can be expanded to 131 cubic feet. The third row of seats can easily be folded down to maximize space. A liftgate is in place which can even be used to haul up heavy groceries.
Fuel economy isn’t the best but what can you expect when the Expedition weighs in at over five thousand pounds; 13 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the freeway. However, that is to be expected with such a big SUV. Horsepower stands at 310 hp and torque is at 365 lb feet; adequate muscle to power this massive automobile around the city due to the impressive V8 5.4 Liter engine. Acceleration is smooth, however things can get bogged down a bit if loaded to capacity. The Expedition’s strong point is its towing abilities; it can tow up to 9,200 lbs.
Let’s take a look at all the extensive safety features. Standard traction control adjusts engine power and braking during critical moments in order to maintain control. You can open the doors even if you don’t have your keys handy thanks to the cool keyless entry pad. All it takes is entering the pre-designated code and the doors unlock. This can be rather convenient if you have misplaced your keys. All disc brakes ensure that this SUV has ample of stopping power. Other safety mechanisms include a comprehensive air bag system and rain sensor wipers which start working immediately when it detects rain or snow. A safety syste, is in place which activates the horn and turns on the emergency lights if the vehicle is involved in an accident.
The Ford Expedition is priced to sell at around $37k. If you are in need of a large SUV and have a ton of items to store then the Expedition could be a good fit. The gas mileage numbers are a minus but that’s a given considering how big and powerful this vehicle is. If you’ve got a large family or just need a lot of room then the Ford Expedition is one vehicle you will definitely want to explore
