The kitchen is one place where bacteria and germs tend to fester. Number one you want to make sure that you are always wiping down the surfaces in your kitchen when you are preparing food as well as various other times throughout the day as well. Many people make the mistake of thinking that they only have to keep surfaces wiped down when dealing with raw meat but the fact is other things are just as dangerous. It is important to wipe down surfaces after preparing each individual type of food in order to prevent any cross contamination.

Washing and rinsing fresh produce and meats is another way to help ensure that you kitchen is a healthy place to prepare food for your family. Although vegetables are usually rinsed before they are packaged they can easily come in contact with something throughout their shipping that can be passed onto you and your family. It is true that rinsing such tainted produce may not ensure that you definitely will not get something but your chances will be much less likely. The same is true for meats and although it is a tedious extra task it could mean the difference between a healthy or not healthy family.

Finally, be sure to read expiration dates on all of your fresh foods, especially fresh meats. When certain meats are aged is can be easier for bacteria to grow on it. Often stores will sell meat that is a little past the date for less money but the savings are not always worth the health of you and your family. If you d purchase aged meat it is important to cook it right away rather than put it in the fridge and let it sit even longer.

Keeping your kitchen healthy is easy if you are conscientious and diligent in reducing the growth of bacteria. It is not that difficult as long as you know the risks.
