What to Look For in a Trampoline
When people think of the word “springs” they relate it to mattresses, when, in fact, they can actually be found in different everyday objects. Two kinds are the one used more often in those objects: compression springs and extension springs. They have opposing operating principles. The first separates components and the second keeps components together. Nonetheless, both obey two principles of elastic and potential energy, have loops and hooks for attachment, and need coil design for elasticity and strength.
Trampolines are another device where springs can be found. They are a fun way for families to spend time together and for children to spend time outside doing exercise. You have probably thought about purchasing one, but, besides being able to jump up and down on it, you did not know what to look for in one.
The first thing to decide on is the shape and size of the trampoline. They can be round, rectangular, square or octagonal, and their diameter ranges from 6 feet to 17 feet. If you want a higher bounce, a rectangular one would be best. If you do not mind being limited to the center for jumping, a round one will do. If you want a large jumping area that does not pull you into the middle, an octagonal trampoline is the way to go. A square trampoline will offer you the benefits of a rectangular one with slightly less bounce height. Besides the space the trampoline occupies you should make sure it has a minimum 24 feet overhead clearance and a 2 feet perimeter clearance without any objects or potential hazards. For added security you can purchase a mesh ring that wraps around the trampoline.
Once you have made your purchase and have taken it home, it is likely that some assembly will be required. Read the accompanying instructions carefully and, for your own safety, never change or skip the assembly steps. Remember: “It is better to be safe than sorry”. Since your new toy is going to be spending a lot of time outdoors, make sure it is dry before using it, do not let snow accumulate on it during the winter, and remove the frame pads if severe winds occur.
Your family, especially your children are probably waiting anxiously for the chance to use their new toy, but before they do, make sure you set down some safety guidelines:
– There should not be more than one person on the trampoline at a time.
– Nobody should jump on it when it is wet.
– Everybody should avoid jumping when strong gusts of wind strike.
While everybody is having fun jumping up and down, they would not be thinking about the construction that is making their entertainment possible. Luckily, there is a whole manufacturing sector that busies itself with providing first rate springs to a great assortment of industries. Automotive, electronics, medical, commercial good and industrial are examples. You can thank those manufacturers for the hours of laughter and physical activity that you and your family will get out of your trampoline. Take good care of it and enjoy.
