Electric fence present one of the oldest ways of keeping horses inside a certain area. The electric shock given tends to keep the animals within the area it should stay. It also helps keep predators out. It requires an electric source and can run the electricity bill up. The visibility of an electric fence is low and animals tend to run into it often.

Barbed wire fence is effective for keeping them fenced, but injury can occur if they get tangled up in it. On the plus side, it is a sturdy and secure way to keep your animals inside the required area and is the cheapest fence you can buy for your horses. On the other hand, it is the most dangerous fence because barbed wire scratches and causes gaping wounds when run into by a horse.

Any fencing you buy will have to be installed high enough so that the horse will not jump over it. When properly constructed, you will not have to worry about your horses escaping or getting injured. The brighter the color of the fence, the more easily the horse can see it and not run into it. Horses tend to test the limits of a fence, so select a strong one that cannot be chewed on or have large enough spaces that they can stick their heads through.
