Cleaning Cars

There are many schools of thoughts when it comes to cleaning your motorcar. I have tried many different methods when it comes to getting my vehicle clean. When I was younger and not earning so much, I used to clean my own car, or even clean other peoples cars to try and get some money together!

My first car was pretty old and cleaning it did not really make that much of a difference to how good it looked, that’s how cheap it was! My first car was a dark brown colour as well so it did not really show up the dirt that much anyway.

What I tend to do now that I have more money is to pay for somebody to clean my car for me – this is called a valet. This to me sounds like a foreign idea, but the concept is very good – if you can afford it! I prefer to have my car cleaned by a professional as my car now is worth several thousand pounds as before when I was young it was more live several hundred! The other great thing about getting a valet is that you can get them to clean the inside and outside of your car for an additional cost. The cars wheels can be treated as well to make them look brand new; this is especially good if you have alloy wheels as these can be cleaned as well to make them look brand new.

If you don’t have so much money to spare for getting your car cleaned by a professional, then why not have a go yourself and clean it up like new? I used to work in a garage, so I have first hand experience of cleaning cars. If you are in a garage, then you may even have access to a high pressure ‘jet wash’ but a more thorough way to get your car clean is to use simple soapy hot water and a bucket and sponge. I tend to think hot soapy water is the best way to wash away that dirt.

The first think to keep in mind is that if you begin to clean from the top of a car, then all the dirty water is going to start to streak the car and by the time you get to the bottom, you are going to have a dirty looking car. So I recommend using your soapy water from the bottom of the car, perhaps even starting with the wheels or hub caps and then on the body work. One bucket or water should be enough for half a small car or one third of a big car – a sedan.

Once you have worked from the bottom to the top of the car with soapy water, then the car should be clean, but will however be very soapy. This is the stage that you need to begin to wash away your soapy water with clean water. It does not really matter if the water is hot or cold, but it will have to be clean. By now, you should have a nice clean car and a fun way for me to dry it off is to have a quick drive around to dry your car off.
