From Meager Beginnings to Every Day Uses, How Power Tools Have Developed

For many years people worked very hard when it came to constructing their homes and buildings. Trees were cut down and milled to make the necessary wood for the frames; hammers were used to drive the nails into the wood. It was hard laborious work that made many men exhausted by the end of the day. In the late 1800\’s a company finally found a way to make that work a little easier and power tools were born.

Early inventions were very crude. At the time these instruments were cumbersome and bulky and were not very easy to use. Most were created simply by adding a motor the hand tool which would give it a little more strength. They were also expensive to purchase and not always as reliable as they needed to be.

But as time passed, they became more refined. In the early 1900\’s the electric drill was given a pistol type grip, which made it easier to handle. The saw was given a more powerful motor and a larger blade, however this made it quite expensive to manufacture.

During the war, new innovations surfaced for them out of necessity. Waterproof versions were designed to help the troops needing to make repairs to the sea vessels. During World War II, a nail gun was patented that was loosely designed by the weapons that were used during combat.

It was not until the late 1950\’s that the cordless tools began to surface. The first cordless design used compressed air cartridges for their energy. It was not long before companies began designing multiple cordless items that work on an interchangeable battery.

There are a number of companies today that are constantly improving and creating new designs. Festool, Bosch Tools, and Milwaukee Tools are probably some of the most recognized in the industry. But there are many more companies that are working to create the most powerful and innovative designs on the market.

Besides the popular drills and saws, there are instruments for almost any job. Most carpentry jobs are now completed using the new technology. Drywall tools are also becoming more and more popular in power. There really isn\’t any area of construction that does not use them today.

Many times in construction of building products today, it is found that not only do they have more horsepower, but they are also connected to computers. Laser designs have made it possible to create a much more accurate cut and assembly of wall panels, floor panels, and trusses. With the use of the power tool as well as the computerized graphics, it makes it possible to virtually build every part of a building on the plant floor. These parts are then moved to the job site and connected in a short period of time.

While the beginning of the power tools was a slow and awkward, they have advance by leaps and bounds. They can now be found in almost every home and used for almost any job. It has made easier for both the contractor and homeowner to build and repair anything that needs attention.
