They always seem to stop working just when they are most needed and it is this that drives people to distraction. Most of them have websites anyway which should answer any questions one would want to ask.

The main thing that these contractors should have is full authority from the manufacturer. They will have to undergo some training and exams before they are given a license to advertise this fact so if the logo is on their site, it is obvious that they have done something to be given this permission. Failing that, ask the neighbors who they use and how they found the service. Many will be only too willing to dish the dirt, if appropriate, so if they give someone a good name, then it is probably true.

Also check that these people stick to appointment times too. There is nothing worse than finding that one has taken several hours off work to be left waiting and then they do not turn up at all. This not only means lost hours, it also means that more time will have to be taken off on another day. This may be alright for those who have an understanding boss, but what about those who do not?

The contractor should also be able to guarantee their work and the parts that may have to be put in. Again, these should be bona fide parts and not those imported from third world countries since they do not last very long. This could also make the guarantee on the gadget null and void too so be very careful about this. In fact, this is the worst possible scenario so one should always check the packaging etc before anything is done to the machine.

The need to have an understanding person at the end of the telephone line too when one is asking for the contractor to come out is very important. If it is someone who does not have any interest in the job, then it may be wise to put down the phone and look for another company. This is the first line of contact that anyone will have with this company so if they cannot be bothered to put in qualified personnel, then this could well lose them business. Finally, look at the household insurance and see if anything can be claimed on the policy before booking the appointment. It may pay to check this out before with the insurance company and ask questions if necessary. This could make the repair cheaper or free in some instances. The contractor may also be able to bill them direct too.
