History of Rubenfeld Synergy Method
Rubenfeld Synergy Method is a holistic form of bodywork which focuses on providing a relaxing experience. The method uses combined elements from various massage techniques to create a unique approach in massage therapy. The technique is a combination of touch therapy and encouragement therapy. In its touch therapy, the massage therapist uses light and gentle touch that is prolonged on several areas of the body during the session. Encouragement therapy is also known as the part where the therapist talks and encourages, asserts, encourage and improve self-acceptance, calms, and guide the client during the therapy session.
The technique is known in many countries around the world as an effective and impressive total body and mind relaxation method used for treating emotional abuse and traumas. It can also be used as a pastime and luxurious method for unwinding and releasing stress and fatigue.
This distinguished therapy was developed by Ilana Rubenfeld while she was learning the various techniques of different massage therapies in the 1960s. The history of Rubnefeld dates back to her time as a patient herself who was suffering from muscle spasms. She was a student at the Juilliard School of Music who was practicing her musical conducting skills when her condition attacked. Muscle spasms can be quite painful and can hinder any activity that we are into. Rubenfeld took therapeutic massage sessions to treat her muscle spasms. Her recovery from the muscle condition led her to take interest in studying the various bodywork techniques. Eventually, she was able to learn many different techniques which were later on used to develop her Rubenfeld Synergy Method in the 1960s.
In 1977, people began to experience her relaxing techniques afterwards when she opened up her method to the public. She was also able to write a book herself called The Listening Hand where the technique she used in the Rubenfeld Synergy Method was explained.
The method she developed was similar to other relaxing massage therapies that use soft and gentle touch to stimulate and condition the body in order to release tension, stress and fatigue. However, the talking done during the session is unique and distinguishes the Rubenfeld method apart from the other techniques. Rubenfeld believes that emotions do settle in tissues all over the body which needs to be targeted and addressed. She also considers that the self-awareness of the client during the therapy can help him or her relax much better.
Today, this method is used all over the world as one of the best relaxation and stress releasing technique. A therapy session of this lasts for 45 to 50 minutes with your clothes on. You will be asked to lie down on a massage table in your relaxed and comfortable position. You can expect light touches and stimulations from your massage therapist. Encouraging and assertive words of recovery, self acceptance, and healing can also be heard from your therapist during the session. These combinations works best in releasing stress within the mind. Practitioners of this method believe that in order to relax the body, you should free the mind first.
