How Interactive Whiteboards Have Become Popular in Schools
The steady presence of technology has been in the majority of peoples lives over the past two decades. It has become an essential part of daily life as most people have internet capabilities on their computers and phones. Many school children are now beginning to reap the benefits of computers and internet capabilities as well. As most schools are now turning to the somewhat modern technology of the interactive whiteboard.
Interactive whiteboards have been around since the early 1990\’s. However, the presence in public and private schools were virtually non-existent at that time. It took many years for interactive whiteboards to become popular among schoolteachers and other school personnel. These interactive whiteboards were primarily utilized within large corporations. The corporations would use these whiteboards during board meetings as they could be linked to computers and files at a moments notice.
Now, interactive whiteboards are becoming ever present in the public and private schools all over the United States. These interactive whiteboards have replaced the primitive chalkboards and dry erase boards of the past. Interactive whiteboards can be linked to special programs so that children as young as five years old can use them easily while gaining basic computer skills that they will need in the future. Teachers can run different programs that make learning more interesting to children of all ages. With the click of a button a teacher can switch from one objective to another without having to waste time going through pages and pages of notes. In addition, students may easily interact with the whiteboard by walking up to it and utilizing a special interactive pen that is linked to the whiteboard. Students may draw, write and correct things that they see on the interactive whiteboard in a matter of seconds.
Not only are interactive whiteboards easy to use and engaging for all involved but they also save money and time. One might think that an interactive whiteboards, which costs around two and a half thousand dollars per whiteboard, are quite expensive items for schools to indulge in however these whiteboards can really grab the attention of children in this fast paced and technologically abundant world. Several children can participate in figuring out the answer to a simple math problem all at once. This promotes teamwork as well as confidence in a child that might not otherwise have it. Some parents might worry that their child will be coddled by even more technology than is necessary however these are not computers that play movies all day they are learning tools that teach an abundance of skills that a regular chalkboard simply cannot. The cost of these interactive whiteboards is a very small price to pay for the progress that it can bring in children’s learning abilities. Not to mention that interactive whiteboards in the classroom can be used for many years to come without having to upgrade.
Overall, there are little disadvantages to having interactive whiteboards in the classroom. Children love being able to create and interact with the whiteboard on a daily basis. It makes school more fun and exciting than ever before.
