Simple Guide to Installing an Insect Screen
So you are wondering how to install an insect screen. It doesn\’t take a rocket scientist, only a little bit of patience and determination to do it right. The time it takes to complete a job like this isn\’t very long at all and is quite simple to do, even for the beginner. The tools you will be using are basic, so no need to stress any big tool usage. You can use a butter knife or a flat-head screwdriver to take out the old screen and to install the new one. A utility knife and a pair of shears will be needed as well. These few basic tools is all that you will need for installing your new insect screen.
If replacing an old screen, carefully pry apart the frame that is holding the screen in place. You will want to do this all the way around the frame until you have two separate pieces of frame. Now you will be able to take the old screen out. Next, take a damp cloth and again, carefully wipe the grooves of the frame that holds the screen in place to allow a better and tighter fit. Take your new screen and measure it out with the old one. When you finally have your new screen cut to size, install it into the frame and snap the two frame pieces back together. You will most likely have some excess screen sticking out, but that\’s OK. Take a pair of shears and carefully snip the excess screening off. Be careful not to take too much off as this can damage the screen.
Now that the repair of the new insect screen is all said and done, you are now ready to install the frame back into its space in the window. This job is all about being careful as you don\’t want to make a simple job harder than it needs to be. Patience is the key and it will all pay off in the end when the job is finished, which will not take long at all. If you do not follow these two simple rules, you may be left with a screen that has been cut too short or a screen that is not as tight as it should be. So take your time and do it right and your home will be free of those pesky insects like flies and mosquitoes.
Installing a new insect screen really isn\’t difficult at all. And now that you know how it is done, why not go ahead and give it a try.
