So What is All This New Age Stuff??

Yoga, Pranic Healing, Meditation, Sound Therapy, Light Therapy, Angel Healing, Tarot, Reiki and the list continues….

For most 9 to 5 work a day people, that’s all mumbo jumbo that the “new-age types” use.

What exactly defines the “new age types”? Don’t worry if you don’t know. Even the poor buggers who have been selectively examined, systematically sorted and neatly placed in the slowly expanding box with a big fat label saying “New Age Types” don’t know.

So for everybody who is definitely not in that new age (usually read as looney) box, the risk of crossing that line can seem quite hefty. For starts, if you are not in the “reverse snobbery” school, it’s just not a cool thing to do! If you are in the reverse snobbery school, it’s not cool enough, anymore!!

Most people have wondered (even if for a moment), if there is more to this World than meets the eye? So if you ever paused when a black cat crossed your path, crossed your fingers before an important event, ducked to avoid walking under a ladder, or just simply said “God Bless you” when someone sneezed, you are already a prospect.

But the strange thing is, that this form of thinking is really not new. One of the more interesting examples is that of Galileo Galilei. Here’s what the wikipedia has to say about him –

“Galileo\’s championing of Copernicanism was controversial within his lifetime, when a large majority of philosophers and astronomers still subscribed to the geocentric view that the Earth is at the centre of the universe. After 1610, when he began publicly supporting the heliocentric view, which placed the Sun at the centre of the universe, he met with bitter opposition from some philosophers and clerics, and two of the latter eventually denounced him to the Roman Inquisitions early in 1615. In February 1616, although he had been cleared of any offense, the Catholic Church nevertheless condemned heliocentrism as \”false and contrary to Scripture\”and Galileo was warned to abandon his support for it-which he promised to do. When he later defended his views, 1632, he was tried by the Inquisition, found \”vehemently suspect of heresy\”, forced to recant, and spent the rest of his life under house arrest.

Thankfully they made stuff like that illegal. So we don’t burn witches or arrest people for speaking up their mind about non-mainstream (read spiritual / pagan / energy etc.) topics anymore (atleast not in the free world), we just sieve them out in our “new-age” box and stay away.

From the point of view of a modern man, the people who condemned the concept of the sun being the centre of the universe as “heresy”, seem so “closed-minded”. So “not-cool”. But back then, they were probably the hip and powerful ones.

But what about all our little bunnies in the new age box? Could they actually have figured out something the rest are quite literally “blind” to? Who will be the judge of that? Us or the future generations?

Not to say that all the stuff that goes on out there is worth noticing (sometimes even illegal or dangerous or quite simply mumbo jumbo!!).

But maybe there are a few, just a few. But more importantly then the school or the technique, what the new age movement brings with it is the possibility that life as we see it, may not be complete or accurate. There are unexplored, unchartered territories in the realms of quantum physics, atomic science and energy healing and even the human mind that point to an existence that is not quite explained, understood or comprehended our conventional knowledge!

So is it possible, that somewhere between the new age, and the modern age a new era of thinking which neither discards spirituality not blindly accepts superstition could be dawning.
