The BP Disaster Oil Spill and the Gulf Coast Claims

The United States of America faced one of the most terrible environmental hazards of its history when in 2010, the now notorious BP oil spill happened. Eleven workers on the oil rig lost their lives tragically, the environment faced one of its biggest challenges and millions of people lost their livelihoods and hence, their daily income.

The most shocking part of the entire episode was the way BP at first tried to put blame elsewhere for the accident instead of simply taking responsibility like a corporation of their size should have done. It wasn\’t until much later that reluctantly the giant company opened up the Gulf Coast claims facility where all people, who had suffered because of the oil spill, could send their claims to be registered and attended to by specialists who could deal with the matter.

While the set up of the Gulf Coast claims facility brought hope to the public that their ordeal was finally being paid attention to and that maybe they could now expect British Petroleum to compensate them for their BP claims, it seems like just the opposite happened. BP has definitely made a very hard effort in dealing with the oil spill claims, but just not in the way everyone expected the company to. It seems as if BP has gone out of its way to make the whole process of paying out compensation for the gulf coast claims as tedious, long and difficult as is humanly possible.

The company has drawn out the process of dealing with the BP oil spill claims for so long that many people have actually lost their homes and cars and other possessions only because they couldn\’t keep up with their monthly mortgage payments – which of course was because the oil spill completely devastated the way they earned their daily bread. Unbelievably BP uses the tactic of moving in, once people become really desperate for money and then offer them small settlements which are nothing compared to what is actually owed to them. Because of the terrible financial circumstances that these victimized people face, they usually accept these lowly settlements and also end up signing an agreement that they won\’t sue BP in the future either, in return for a quick payout.

It is because of these actions of BP that many attorneys have started advertising free consultations of BP claim cases to see if they can help all the victims of the oil spill who haven\’t been treated fairly by BP and try to get them the compensation that they deserve. Your problem could have its root in lost income or injuries; either way these lawyers can give you legal assistance and make sure you get what you are entitled to. At the moment, this option seems to be a lot better than trying to file a claim directly on BP\’s website and knowing that you will probably get lost in the system or end up with pennies in compensation money. Hopefully this way you can get your own back at BP.
