The Steps of Pre-Writing
What exactly should you do during the pre-writing stage? Like many aspects of writing, this can vary depending on who’s doing the work.
However, every writer must be aware about the pre-writing procedures and should apply it as always as they can whenever they have a new writing task to accomplish. This process is really important especially if you want to provide quality-driven contents and to plan every detail that you will include in your writing.
This is a great way to prevent you from writer’s block and to encounter other writing problems such as consuming most of your time doing nothing and to create a poorly written content due to your uncertain plans in writing. These are the common situations in which a writer will experience due to skipping the process of pre-writing for the benefit of their writing task.
But, how important pre-writing really is and why it should be a must for every writer who seeks to provide well-written contents? The answer is that, pre-writing has been a very important thing to do before you will have to start your writing task. It allows you to set a foundation on how your writing will stand uniquely and manageably in order to avoid any bad writing habits sooner or later. It serves as your blueprint so that you can be so sure that your writing will stand out with quality and effectiveness.
You can always state your purpose on what to write and to outline your ideas and arguments for you to provide a clear and interesting topic that no other inexperience writer can do. At this point, most of your work as a writer is to gather relevant and important information about the topic for you to support your ideas or arguments when you are about to write. With these pre-writing tasks, you can be so sure on what to write and to prevent any delays that you always do with your previous writing projects. Notice how you’ll become an effective and productive writer as you follow the pre-writing procedures for the benefit of your contents.
If you’re looking to test out new approaches to your craft, though, you may want to try your hand at these five different steps.
1. Targeting. This step has you defining your audience, making detailed notes about what they will want to know from the subject , as well as how to best communicate it.
2. Outlining. Make sure your outline covers the span of your purpose and objectives, with enough detail to figure out individual items during both the research and drafting phases.
3. Structuring. While putting together your research and notes, check the outline periodically to see if your outline remains on point or if new information makes changing it a logical proposition.
4. Development. Have you identified problems during the process of outlining and structuring? What things can you do to overcome them?
5. Checking. Verify all that you have done to this point before starting the draft.
Obviously, an English writing software won’t have much use for this stage of the composition process. Regardless, you’ll have to make sure you keep one on hand so you won’t find yourself in need during the actual production.
