What is Balinese Massage?
Balinese massage is a form of therapeutic massage which was developed in Bali, Indonesia as an alternative medical care. This massage therapy uses a combination of various massage techniques which includes reflexology, acupressure and aromatherapy massage. The patient can expect a relaxing deep therapeutic experience and an enhancement in his or her medical condition.
This type of massage has its roots established in the ayurvedic technique practiced by Buddhist monks as a way of natural treatment. Balinese massage practices the similar technique of unblocking the qi within the patient’s body just like the other types of Oriental massage therapies. Monk practitioners are convinced that the body is lined up with pathways where the life force of the body freely flows. That every blockage or buildup in any of those pathways can and will lead to an unhealthy physical and mental condition.
The combination of massage techniques ensures a soothing experience as well as relief from many different types of body pain, improvement in the blood and oxygen circulation, good mood, therapy from anxiety and depression; improve body immunity against sickness and disease, and a healthy skin.
The acupressure and reflexology technique works in improving the circulation of qi, blood and oxygen within the body. They are also used in treating muscle pains by working on the deep tissue of the body. The kneading technique aids the flow of blood to the lymphatic system which helps in removing wastes and toxins from the body. Balinese massage therapy may be a bit rough as it uses both acupressure and reflexology technique as well as skin-rolling techniques. Benefits can be easily received by the patient after the massage therapy session although temporary pain can also occur due to the release of tension from the different muscle groups as well as the removal of toxins from the body.
Aromatherapy helps the patient by calming the emotion and setting up good moods. The uplifting of the emotion can help the client to receive the benefits of the therapy much better. The client can choose his or her choice of special oils before the massage therapy. The patient should avoid using scented oils that can cause irritations to their skin.
Similar with any massage therapy though, proper preparations should be met before the patient indulges in the satisfying experience from a Balinese massage therapy. The patient should strictly follow a no heavy meal diet especially the day before the therapy session. Heavy meal can result to discomfort during the therapy session. Drinking plenty of water prior to the therapy can help in cleansing the system. It is also advisable to replenish the fluids in the body after the massage session by slowly drinking water. This can also help in flushing out the toxins from the body after the massage therapy. Arrive 30 minutes or an hour earlier than the schedule so that you can have plenty of time to get accustomed and comfortable with the environment. This will also give you the time to relax and loosen up stiff muscle groups with a bath at the sauna or steam room.
