3 Tips For Enhancing Hair Volume
There are many ways you can use hair tools to add body and volume to your hair. In this article, I will explain how to use common hair tools to create waves with volume, waves without volume, and just plain old volume in your hair–and all using that friendly arsenal of hair tools you probably already own. So get out your trusty blow dryer, curling iron, and flat iron, and get yourself ready!
Hair Straightener
This works particularly well for those with curly hair, but it will give a glamorous, voluminous wave to just about everyone. First, section off your hair, and leave one section loose to start on. Holding the curling iron horizontal to the floor, gently close the plates, and lightly grip your hair as close to the roots as you can. The trick is to rotate the iron 180 degrees as you slide it down each section. This makes a big, smooth wave. Take your time, and work slowly, from front to back.
Just keep in mind that thermal styles can damage your hair if you do them too often, so make sure you apply some kind of heat protectant. There are formulas available both as lotions and sprays, and a little will go a long way towards keeping your hair beautiful as well as healthy.
Hair Dryer
Using a blow dryer is probably the most common way to add a little \’oomph\’ to your hair. One of the best things about it is that it’s so fast, and it keeps your hair touchable and bouncy all day.
First, use good products in the shower, and rinse with cold water so your hair will be extra shiny. Use a towel to dab out the moisture; never wring your hair, as this could damage it because wet hair is fragile. Once you\’ve got it relatively dry, apply a heat protectant, and then flip your head over and blow dry the back, remembering to keep the nozzle at least 6 inches from your precious locks! Then slowly make your way to the front.
When you stand back up, you\’ll get a head of poofy hair, but don’t worry this will settle down. The next thing to do is to shape your hair. Simply part it the way you like, and then, using your fingers or a brush, pull the hair up and outwards from your head in the direction you would like it to dry, and blast it with the dryer as you continue to hold it in place. Use the cool setting on your dryer if possible.
Curling Iron
Obviously, you can use a curling iron to add waves to the volume you\’ve created. To make big, luscious waves, use the highest diameter barrel you have. Big barreled curling irons create big, loose curls – exactly what\’s in this summer.
First, pull your hair into sections, leaving one section down for you to start with. Hold a segment of hair (about one to three inches wide) away from your face and wind it up in the curling iron. Usually I like to start at the end of my hair and go about halfway up the shaft. If you want the look to be more natural, don\’t curl the very ends of your hair. Work this way all around your head. Smooth the pieces very carefully with your hands, and finish it off with hairspray.
