Adjustable Piano Benches: The Right Fit

No matter what level piano player you are, utilizing an adjustable piano bench is likely always going to be the best way to play. Adding piano bench cushions into the mix will be a great start, as your piano stool may feel a little stiff to new players. Never underestimate how important it is to sit at the correct height and keep the correct posture in front of it. Being able to do so will make you a much better player. Using the right type of bench will not only help you create better music, it will also prevent back and neck pain from ever occurring. More importantly, an adjustable seat can serve any and all family members who want to play this instrument; it will cater to any and all sizes.

Obviously, it is quite a different reach for a child playing the piano, compared with an adult. It can be a difficult task for a small child to reach the keys or to even be able to see which key is which. Often times, parents simply add cushions to the seat so that kids will be able to see how they are placing their fingers on the keys, but this is not always enough. Not only that, but it may be a bit dangerous for a child to play while seated upon a huge stack of cushions. The cushions may slide off, along with the child. Instead, through the use of an adjustable bench, the child will be able to see the keys and play well without ever having to teeter on a stack of cushions.

Though there are many types of adjustable benches, the most commonly used seat can be moved upward or downward. This ensures that players of any height can share the same seat, though they must take turns playing. Usually these seats are on the small side anyway, so there may not be enough space for more than one player, teachers will have to sit beside the player.

The seat provides another option; this is the standard playing set up. If a child is not tall enough to see the keys from a bench seat, it can be specially outfitted with a cushion or padded with vinyl or leather to create a raised platform. This will probably only work well if the child is only needs to be raised a few inches. An adjustable seat, on the other hand, will work for a child no matter how old he is, and will be a helpful tool for a piano player at any stage of growth.

Twin seats allow users to alter each side of the seat to different heights. This is a good tool for two children who are different heights, or for a very small child who wants to sit beside his music teacher as he learns. Playing duets is made easier for children who would not otherwise be able to sit beside the piano. Like regular benches, the adjustable types usually feature storage space below the seat, so that players may safely store their sheet music.
