Water and electricity are the two things that should not meet. The hazards of having electrical appliances and wiring in the bathroom are many. Luckily, there are ways by which one can make sure that injuries are prevented.

Keep away from water supply. This is your best method in order to prevent bathroom injuries related to electrical appliances. You should never make non water-resistant and non water-safe items be exposed to humidity or, worse, be submerged under water.

Also, make sure that you keep electrical appliances away from the source of water. Your faucets and showers should be located as far as possible from the sockets and other electrical fixtures.

As much as possible, do not use electricity powered appliances inside the bathroom while the tap is running or while water is flowing from the shower. On close proximity, electricity can still be conducted and this will be dangerous for you.

Keep dry. The presence of shower stalls or closed walk-in showers can be a blessing. These prevent water from splashing all over the room when you are using the shower. So, this can avoid electrical accidents even if your bathroom is small and the electrical sources are just nearby.

You may also make it a point to wipe dry items that should be kept dry. Use dry cloth to blot out any excess liquids present on your appliances and electrical items.

Avoid octopus connections. Make sure that you have enough sockets for your electrical connections in the bathroom. Do not use extension wires. Most importantly, do not connect a wire after another. If you really need to use an electrical item in your bathroom that your present connection cannot reach, it is better if you will have another socket installed on a safe part of that bathroom and do not merely use extensions.

Cover sockets. Sockets should be installed and walls. Also, they should be equipped with appropriate covers to prevent water from getting inside them. Even when these sockets are not used, they should be regularly cleaned to make sure that no humidity is trapped inside the covers.
Repair properly. When there are electrical wires that need repairing, it can be safer if you will get the services of an electrician who knows about the safest way to repair your connection.

Using electrical tapes is not safe especially when you are going to use them on appliances that you have in your bathroom.

Make sure that you regularly inspect your appliances and determine if there are any that need to be repaired.

Store appliances properly. Hair dryers, electric shavers and other items should be kept in dry storage spaces. Vanity sets or cabinets are good storage spaces. Cabinets with doors or drawers that significantly protect these appliances from constant exposure to liquids or to humidity will be best to have.

Don’t touch when hands are wet. Blow-drying your hair is an example of this safety tip. Make sure that you dry your hands with a towel first before plugging in the hair dryer.
