Different Doors Created Through the Years

What do you see as the value of doors? First, you would certainly take note that they can keep an area secure, thereby protecting the people and the properties behind that closed out area.

What a Door Is
The door is more than just an opening in a structure that provides the people in it an entrance and exit. It already proves to be useful in the several times that people use doors every day. In fact, you may hardly be able to keep count of how many times you have already passed by your main door at home in a week, let alone a year. A door is also a hinged barrier to cover an opening to keep an area secure.

Evolution of Doors
The beginning of the use of doors though is hard to trace, but it is likely conceived when man first attempts to steal someone else’s property. The evolution of the door has always involved the issue of security. For instance, a caveman covered the openings in the caves to keep off animals. Eventually, the rock door is replaced by wood when the ancestors already know how to work with lumber. A wooden door still gives the necessary security but it is lighter than the traditional rock door that the primitive man used to have. When industrialisation came to the consciousness of the people, this resulted to the use of steel doors in metal buildings. Steel provides more security than wood does even if only a less dense sheet of metal is used for the door.

Common Types
Due to this evolution in the use of different materials for doors, there are now different types of doors available for you to choose from. There are also different designs for them as well. There are doors, which are designed for purely aesthetic purposes while others are more about practicality. Culture and architectural style also influence the design of the door. Here are the common types of doors that you can find now:

– French doors. These are designed with more of the beauty element in mind. From their name alone, this is obviously of French influence. They are made of small glass windows. They are also called as lights because they can be produced in various lights.

– Slab doors. These are the most common doors used in houses as well as apartments. One of the sides of these doors usually has a knob or handle. To open them, you can use the knob or handle. They are also made of wood, which you can choose to be carved or flat.

– Dutch doors. These are doors with two panels that are separated on a horizontal cut. They are usually found in stables because they help secure the horses inside while opening the upper panel to feed them.

– Folding doors. These have multiple panels that can be opened by folding them.

– Saloon doors. These are made of lightweight panels, which can be opened, but go back to their original place once released.

– Sliding doors. These are a hybrid of swinging and folding doors. They usually have a single panel, which you can slide to one side to open them.
