Horizontal Mailboxes

Horizontal mailboxes offer the most convenient way of servicing large numbers of tenants. They are used in commercial mailbox centers, apartment complexes, condominiums, office buildings, and government post offices. They can be arranged in a variety of configurations that actually increase the profitability of commercial space.

The key to understanding how these basic, compact mail boxes can actually serve a financial purpose is to look at everything but the mailboxes themselves. Wall space itself is by nature space that cannot be leased or used for production. Every bit of space devoted to mail room activity is even more space that cannot be leased for production.

However, if we minimize the amount of space needed to send and receive mail, we increase available space for production and profitability. This was the entire reason for inventing horizontal mailboxes to begin with. Greater efficiency with less wasted area meant improved profit margins for all parties involved.

Horizontal mailboxes are so called because they are individually wider than they are tall. The term can be a bit misleading; however, if we confuse the shape of the mail boxes themselves with the way they are arranged. When arranged in a cluster, a group of these mailboxes may actually be much taller than it is wide. This allows even the smallest of buildings to use a bare minimum of horizontal wall space to meet the needs of its occupants.

Many apartment buildings, office buildings, and small postal centers can take the smallest wall in the building, or even a portion of a wall between two offices, and turn that small area into a fully operational mail center.

Buildings can save on even more floor space if they install front loading horizontal mail boxes. This will eliminate the need for a mailroom behind the boxes because mail carriers can load the boxes from the front. By eliminating the need for a separate mailroom, architects can create more office space or warehouse space that can be used for production and profitability.

Architects in charge of building renovation can even save on even more space and money by installing surface mounted front loading units. Not only does this eliminate the need for a mail center behind the wall, but it also saves on the cost of cutting into the wall to install recessed units.

As an individual unit, a single mail box looks plain and simple enough. There is little about its design that stands out as impressive. However, it is this very innate plainness that actually makes this design one possibly the most efficient, utilitarian mail center option one can invest in. By using the most basic of forms as building blocks, the most advanced custom configurations can be created that meet the specific needs of any number of organization types.

There are outgoing mail boxes and parcel boxes that can be installed in any cluster of horizontal mailboxes. The numbers of rows and columns, of course, can also be customized to meet the specific number of current tenants. Both 4C USPS mailboxes and 4B+ USPS mailboxes for retrofits can be configured along these parameters.
