How to Buy a Trendy Winter Jacket
Jackets are a necessity for winter in most areas of the United States. Because they are worn daily, a quality one is recommended. If you choose wisely, you probably can get away with only one or two jackets for the season.
Often, people do not put a lot of thought into their jackets since they are only worn outdoors. In addition, they do not really consider it part of their outfit for the day. However, in the winter you will probably wear your jacket every day so a number of people will see it. An unattractive jacket can ruin the look of any outfit.
While styles do change from season to season, there are certain looks that never look out of style. If you do not want to replace your jacket every year, try to stay away from trends. Besides the fact they look dated fast, they can often clash with many of your clothes. This will make the total look unappealing. If you really must follow the latest trend, keep that to your accessories such as gloves and scarves.
Try to avoid using a ski jacket as your day-to-day jacket. There are plenty of shorter casual jackets that look good with both casual and dressier clothes. Many of these will also stand up to the elements if you spend a lot of time outdoors.
Also, consider the fabric used. Wools always look classy and do a good job keeping you warm, but do not overlook one of the newer fabrics that are made to handle the elements but still look stylish. Some of these newer fabrics can even insulate you as good as down but are much less bulky.
Before deciding on a color, look at your wardrobe. If your clothes are mostly black, black may seem the obvious choice but a gray one can look stylish and not clash with your other clothes. If you are more into the browns, they you probably want to stick to that color. If your wardrobe is colorful and browns and blacks depress you, consider a neutral that adds a little more pop. A pewter color or even an off white may be more to your liking. Neutrals do not necessarily have to be blah. The purpose of a picking a neutral is so that it does not clash with your wardrobe, not so you blend in with everyone.
Belts and buttons should not be too showy or you will get tired of them fast. Also, avoid trendy cuffs and collars.
Probably the most important thing is to make sure the jacket fits properly. There should be enough room to layer clothes underneath but an ill-fitting jacket, no matter how stylish, will not look good. The temptation is to get an oversized jacket but it just ends up making you look heavier. That look never looks good.
In conclusion, if you are looking for a stylish jacket that enhances your wardrobe and will keep you warm choose one in a classic design and neutral color. In addition, be sure that it fits well.
