Is Liposuction Surgery For Me? 16 Points to Note
If you think that anyone who has substantial amounts of stubborn fats can go right ahead with liposuction – then you are dead wrong. Everybody who wants to undergo the procedure must meet certain requirements in order to promote optimum results and to avoid complications.
It is a good surgeon’s job to identify those patients who are good candidates for liposuction from those who are not. This is not to deprive others from the benefits but to protect them from the risks and possible complications.
Who are the Ideal Candidates for Liposuction?
– Good candidates for this procedure are those individuals who have realistic expectations. There are no definite results of perfection, but there will be significant improvement. If a person comes to terms with that from the very beginning, then he/she has a healthy perception of the probable outcome.
– Individuals who generally have good health conditions are the ones who are usually preferred.
– Those who have a steady weight or at least 20% above the ideal weight. Although some surgeons consider those within the 15-30 percentile.
– A healthy skin that is firm and elastic. This will ensure that the patient’s skin can bounce back and easily contour around the new form. This also eliminates the risk of saggy skin after liposuction.
– Those who have substantial knowledge about the procedure, and is aware of all the factors involved.
– Individuals who have not had any surgeries in the same area that is to be treated.
– Those who are at least 18 years of age, and ideally not older than 50.
– Those who are not taking any drug or medication that can interact with the effects of anesthetics.
Who are Not Good Candidates for Liposuction?
– Morbidly obese patients are not advised to undergo liposuction. Their general health alone is one factor; and they could also have other co-existing health problems brought about by their excessive weight.
– Smokers would not be advised to undergo liposuction unless they stop it at least a month or two prior to surgery. It promotes low tissue perfusion making healing time longer and subjecting the person to added risk for complications.
– Those who have been using Accutane for at least 6 months before liposuction have an increased risk for keloid-like scarring.
– Individuals who have blood-clotting disorders and those who are also taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), aspirin, Coumadin, and other anticoagulants (blood thinners). Blood tests will be taken during consultations to avoid any event of profuse bleeding within surgery.
– Diabetic clients are often advised by surgeons to reconsider before finally deciding on it because this condition would present problems with healing.
– Clients with heart and lung problems are at a higher risk for complications, especially when the specific procedure requires general anesthesia.
– Those who have significant amounts of stretch marks. This would mean that the skin has poor elasticity.
– Those who are suffering from emotional trauma or depressed. The effects of liposuction are not always immediate; there needs to be gradual time to heal. Those who may not be emotionally fit would find this distressing.
It is very important to know whether you are in fact fit to consider liposculpture surgery. It’s not just about the need or the want to look trimmer but your general safety as well. Communication between you and your surgeon is the key at this point; and when you pass every checklist after thorough evaluation then you are definitely cleared for surgery!
