Keeping Your Baby Safe In A House With Grown Ups
Having a baby means a lot of adjustment to do especially when your home has been childless for quite some time. In a house with grownups, it should be transformed into something that is safe for your baby. Aside from organizing, decorating and getting the nursery prepared for the baby, you have to take a look into some other parts of your home. In other words, you need to baby-proof your home. This is the best way for you to make your home safe for the coming years while your baby is growing up.
During the first years of your baby, you have to focus more in the nursery and the things that your baby uses. During this time, there isn’t much of a transformation needed inside and outside your home. For instance, you have to check on your baby’s crib. Make sure that it is well built and sturdy because this is where you usually place your baby. You also have to check on the materials used for the crib and the things that are inside it. Wires and cables should be out of your baby’s reach while he is inside the crib. Another thing that you have to check is the clothes for your baby because there are clothes that have cords/strings that may cause strangulation. Toys, feeding bottles and other baby accessories should also be suitable for your baby because you might know what may happen.
When your baby starts to crawl or walk, that’s the time when you need to really transform your home. Because your baby cannot different the things that can be harmful for him from the things that are suitable for him yet, you should be responsible of keeping him safe. Electrical wires/cables should be hidden and electrical outlets should be covered especially when they are not in use. Dangerous and poisonous substances that will be used for laundry and cleaning should also be kept inside a cabinet with lock to make sure that your child will mistakenly drink them. You should do the same thing to sharp tools, utensils and even small things like buttons, jewelry, nails and screws. These things should be in a place where your little one won’t have an access to. If your home has a swimming pool, you have to safeguard it because your child may drown. Better yet, you can install baby gates and small fences so that your child will not be able to easily go from one area to another. You also need to check on the furniture pieces that have sharp edges because your child may bump into them.
But aside from baby-proofing your home, it is also very important that you always watch over your child. When he starts crawling or walking, you really need to keep an eye on your child because accidents may happen when you least expect it them to. This would be best thing that you can do for your child to keep him safe and protected all the time.
