Making Your Own Window Cleaning Supplies
Window cleaning can be a real headache for most people. It takes quite a bit of time and the proper tools in order to get most windows finished. A little bit of research can make this household chore less painful and easier. All you need are the right tools and you can clean your windows like the professionals do.
Having the right tools for the job is important. You will need a scraper, squeegee, some type of scrubbing wand and lint free towels. Most people are able to achieve professional looking results when using these types of tools on their windows.
There are many different options when it comes to window cleaners. The majority of the population purchases premade cleaners from their local store. An alternative to these harsh and sometimes expensive cleaners is to make your own. Many different recipes are available depending on what a person\’s preference is.
Cleaners can be made from White Vinegar, Vinegar and Rubbing Alcohol and Ammonia and Vinegar. These three options are perfect if someone is looking to go green in their household. There are fewer harsh chemicals to worry about and if they are made without the ammonia they are quite a bit safer for children and pets to be around.
The first solution is made from white vinegar and warm water. The ratio is 2 tsp for every quart of water. This works best when put into a spray bottle. Before each use the solution should be shaken to make sure the ingredients are mixed well. This is especially important after the solution has been sitting for awhile.
The Vinegar and Rubbing Alcohol solution is made up of 2 cups cold water, 1/2 cup white vinegar and 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol. This solution also works best when put into a spray bottle. Shaking before each use is recommended to mix the ingredients.
The last recipe is one that includes Ammonia, Vinegar and Cornstarch. To make this window cleaner you need to put 2 tbsp of cornstarch, 1/2 cup ammonia and 1/2 cup white vinegar into a one gallon container. The next step is to add 3 quarts lukewarm water and stir. Making sure to stir all the ingredients until the cornstarch beaks down is very important. A funnel should be used to avoid getting ammonia everywhere when pouring it into a spray bottle. If the mixture that uses ammonia is chosen, the windows should be rinsed with warm water after cleaning and then dried right after to avoid streaks.
Window cleaning should always be done with the right equipment no matter what cleaner is used. This will reduce the amount of streaking and cut down on the time spent doing the task. Like everything else, practice makes perfect; and soon you can be producing windows that look like you had a professional do them. Window cleaning using these methods can be fun and relaxing. It no longer has to be a chore that is put off until the last minute and you can enjoy the benefits of a beautiful view when done.
