Making your house burglar-proof can take just a few modifications and additions. But, most of us still neglect to do these things. Here are simple tips that can greatly increase your home\’s safety.

Think like them. By them, I mean to say the burglars or criminals who would ransack your home. Put yourself in a situation wherein you are thinking about entering this house and steal from it. What would be your plan? Where and how are you going to get in the house?

Make sure to lock up. When you are going to leave the house and there will be no one inside, make sure that you double-check that all the locks are in place. Even if there will be people inside, when no one will be stationed directly near the doors and monitor them, you still need to keep them locked. A few minutes are enough for a skilled burglar to get in and out of your house while taking a few souvenirs with them.

Be particular about the locks. Change your locks regularly if several different people had previously had access to your house and your keys. When you are moving to a new property, also make sure that you change the locks before you settle in the new house.

When you have lost your keys or you have left them with someone whom you do not fully trust, there is a good reason for you to have the locks changed as well.

Check your alarm system. Your alarm system should be working well. But also, the wirings should be properly installed and concealed well so that the alarm will not be easily disabled.

Also, if you have an alarm system that goes off even without a real cause for alarm, it is time for you to check on your provider as surely, there are some defects in your alarm system.

Fool the thieves. Most burglars will not have enough courage to enter and rob a house if there are people inside. And so, if you want to avoid getting robbed when no one is in the house or if you are already asleep, try to make it look like there is someone inside it who is vigilantly monitoring the place.

Keeping the lights on in a few strategic areas will help. Also, turning on the TV or the stereo will also be effective.

Take immediate action. When you are sensing something or someone in the middle of the night, you should report it to the authorities. Even if you see someone lurking near your property at daytime but looks suspicious, you should not take a chance and report it as soon as you can.

Choose your staff. When you need other people to work for you like in housekeeping, plumbing or gardening, make sure that you have enough information regarding their background.
