Anyone who works in the field of construction or happens to be doing quite a lot of home improvements will likely end up needing the stuff; a bit of insulation may also come in handy when endeavoring in such work. There is more than one reason to purchase platforms and there are different types of the material meant for different uses. Generally, the material falls under one of three categories: aerial, supported or suspended. If you are wondering what sort you need, read on.

For those completely unacquainted with these structures, platforms are set up as a temporary framing device so that workers can reach out-of-the-way locations on a construction site. No building can go up without it. Many of you may be picturing scaffolding as a necessity only for huge dwellings, but it is needed on the construction site of even the smallest home. In the US and Europe, we tend to create these structures through the use of metal pipes and wooden platforms. In Asia, bamboo is used rather than pipes. As you can see, these platforms are used all over the globe to help create new building structures.

The supported type is commonly used along the outside edifices of building walls – it is built from the ground up and typically combines wood and metal pole structures to create a boxed-in scaffold. In order to step onto the flat supported platform, a ladder is needed to get to it. Workers use the platform as a work surface, suspended high above the ground but well-supported by the scaffolding support system. Although it is possible for this type of structure to be mounted upon wheels, the heavy-duty sort of scaffolding typically seen outside of buildings on urban construction sites cannot be so easily moved. If you have ever walked by this type being used on the job, you know that it forms a sort of tunnel for passers-by to walk beneath, along the sidewalk.

The suspended type involves a rope, which is secured to a building or home rooftop, which supports the work platform. Because this type of structure can be manipulated through the use of switches, pulleys and levers, the work platform can be raised or lowered to the desired height. The platform can be supported by a rope on either side of it, to create an even work surface.

Finally, there is an aerial type or lifts. These are structures which can be moved and raised to reach the desired work space. These can be very desirable for those who require their platform to be moved to a completely different area for use. Moving an aerial life can be tricky, however, as this kind of scaffolding must be contained by strong chains or shackles to prevent the platform from falling from the hook carrying it. Within each broad category of scaffolding, there are different variations which exist. It is of the utmost importance that workers on the job decide for themselves which type is appropriate to the individual job site.
