As many of us have already figured out, gift bags are a great way to let friends and family members know you care about them. Kraft bags those brown paper bags with the rounded handles can be a great and environmentally-friendly way to house any gifts. Giving a gift bag is convenient because the gifts within them need not be wrapped. No one wants to have to wrap a ton of presents even as they prepare for the party that goes along with the tote, and adding just a touch of tissue paper or ribbon can make these sacks look all the more beautiful.

A kraft bag is made from sturdier paper than most other types of sacks, making it the bag of choice over regular brown paper ones. Putting your nephew’s birthday present, your mom’s Mother’s Day present, your sister’s graduation gift and your brother’s Christmas present in a tote will save you time, money and work to prevent further damage to the environment. Of course, if your friends and family members do not already recycle, you may have to encourage them to do so. Or snag the tote back after the present has been given. These totes come in different shapes and sizes, so that any present is likely to fit snugly inside it. There are smaller styles for jewels and pendants, and larger ones so that you can give your young cousins that Wii they have been longing to own.

One of the slight drawbacks to using these sacks is that they are not very colorful. But with a little creativity, this can be overcome. For example, the surface of a paper sack makes a great place to draw a picture. You can decorate it with crayon, marker or pieces of colored construction paper. If you want to keep things simple, adding a colorful ribbon or bow will do much to brighten it.

Personally, I feel that the paper sack on its own is rather stylish. It may be a dull brown in color, but its shape makes up for what it lacks in brightness. And these sacks are rather classic looking; no one will feel ashamed to carry one down the street, which means that your friends and family members are more likely to reuse them at a later date. Those brightly colored totes with the gaudy “Happy Birthday” messages may not have such a wonderful fate.
