1. Simplify: Instead of worrying too much about counting calories or avoiding specific types of food, try to concentrate on eating a well a balanced diet filled with the correct proportion of vitamins, minerals, fibers and other nutrients. Don’t shy away from carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are an important source of energy. Eat a lot of fibers. They give a feeling of fullness and you are not tempted to binge on unhealthy snacks.

2. Drink lots and lots of Water: Drink lots of water. Water helps you feel fuller for longer periods of time. Drinking water helps you flush out the toxins from your body. It keeps you feeling energized for longer periods of time. Although drinking lots of water is recommended for everybody, it is even more beneficial for plus sized people. Drink 8-10 cups of water every day.

3. Avoid snacking: Consult your doctor or dietician and plan out a diet routine that is most beneficial for you. And be sure to stick to the diet. Avoid all forms of refined sugars and flours. Eat fresh fruits to satisfy your sweet tooth. Stock up on multigrain or whole grain breads. Munch on carrots or celery sticks when the urge strikes you.

4. Keep a Food Diary: Record all the food that you eat daily, in a journal. Include all small snacks. At the end of a day go over the entire list and try to spot the redundancies. Find out if there are special times, reasons or patterns to binging over the period of a week. Eliminate all superfluous snacks. Whenever you feel like indulging in something with a high calorific value, refer to your journal and make up for it later.

5. Exercise: Develop an exercise routine that you can stick to everyday. It needn’t be very fancy or very time consuming. Just an hour or half an hour everyday can help you lose weight or maintain an optimum weight. Even if you maintain a very sedentary life style, here are some simple and fun exercises you can do at home.

a. Walking: Walk for twenty to thirty minutes every day. Take the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator. This is an all round work out. Involve some friends and make a fun activity to look forward to everyday.

b. Dancing: Dancing is a wonderful exercise. It is a great cardio workout, and it is guaranteed to lift your mood. Routines like jazzercise, aerobics to music etc are very popular.

c. Light weight lifting, simple yoga poses, squats and crunches are some simple exercises that you can do at leisure and absolutely ensure that maintain your good health and vigor.
