Types of Metal Finishing Equipment
Metal finishing machines are used to give a good finish to the exterior of various products. This is why these machines are used in various industries. They are quite in demand among the tools used these days as they are helpful for finishing goals such as smoothing and surfacing for whatever metallic item is being worked on. As a result of a finishing machine’s work, the item will become more polished. The machine can also burnish the item for extra shine and strip all the extra parts from it, which are likely obtained from production.
Finishing machines are important because raw metals cannot be used as is. Instead, the machines are helpful in developing metal products, which can be turned into commercial products or items with industrial uses. There are three types of metal enhancements, which can be done to raw metals – polishing, burnishing, and shining. The finishing equipment used depends on the size of the metal production and the type of metal that needs the finishing work. There are specific finishing machines, which can be used to get the type of surface and polish that you need in any metal.
There are several types of metal finishing equipment that is available in the market right now. However, the most commonly used finishing equipment in various industries are vibratory finishing machines, barrel finishing machines and abrasive blasting machines. These are best used by industries to form metals into fully polished products, which are ready to be sold to end-users. Here are the different types of finishing equipment:
– Barrel finishing machines. These come in two types – dry and wet tumblers. Dry tumblers are used in finishing metals in a vertical process, wherein the equipment is used in every stage of the finishing. On the other hand, wet tumblers are used only to remove the stock from different types of metal surface. Barrel finishing equipment has a barrel drum which can have six to eight sides. The drum rounds metals and remove extra parts that are unnecessary on the surface of the metals. These are best used to remove any imperfection on the metal pieces.
– Vibratory finishing machines. These work on the metal pieces by rounding them up in a high-frequency motion. As a result, this can produce a smooth surface in the metals. These machines are also used for metals with tubular recesses or deep cavities. They are advantageous to the users because they can finish large metals that are soft and delicate, do thorough cleaning, apply colour, and increase the protection of the metals against the effect of wear and tear.
– Abrasive blasting machines. These are used for cleaning and finishing metals. They are also used to perform the sand blasting process on metals. This is because the machines are used to direct particles of sand, metal pellets or steel shot to the metal pieces at high speed. Sand blasting is preferred by workers on metals because this saves time in cleaning off the metal pieces, improves productivity, and does not require the use of chemicals in the process.
