Ways To Ensure Personal Security

Protecting yourself may not call for studying under a sophisticated fighting school or enrolling in grueling self-defense classes. There are everyday tips that can be used by any person in order to improve his personal security. Here are some of those tips:

Be alert. When you are always thinking about the possible things that can happen to compromise your safety, you are not paranoid. You are just careful. And, it is better to be careful than feel sorry in the end.

Always consider loopholes in your safety and take immediate action to take care of them.

Call for help. Even if you are not sure about a possible entry into your house or in your care, already call for help. You can directly call the police or you can ring a trusted friend who will be making the call for you in case the threat is real.

Also, when in a dangerous situation, call for help as loud as you can. This can be effective. But, there are some who would recommend that you shout \”fire\” as you will be getting more attention through that method.

Be wary of strangers. Ever since we were kids, strangers are the type of people we should not be complacent with. When a salesman or a seemingly harmless saleswoman knocks on your front door, forget about hospitality and do not invite them inside your house.

If you are interested in what they are selling, guide them to the front porch to talk. This way, if the threat is false, you will not seem too rude. But when it is real, your neighbors can come for the rescue.

Lock your doors and windows. Locking your home is always essential in maintaining your safety. Every night, before you go to sleep, you should make sure that all doors are locked and bolted. Likewise, before you leave the house, make sure that the place is locked.

Lock your car… and don\’t leave your keys. When you are inside your car, especially if you are stuck in traffic, make sure that your car doors are locked. You will never know if an attacker slips beside you or at the back of your car.

There is a statistics that a few Americans leave their car doors unlocked and their car keys inside the car. This might not be attributed to stupidity but it can be because of too much trust. Even if you are living in a community with seemingly the most honest, most trustworthy people in the world, you can never be too sure.

So, to make your car a safe place for you and your family or anyone else that uses it, always think that you are in the streets where anyone or everyone has an interest to steal your car or sabotage you.

Follow and don\’t follow a routine. Organized criminals stake out before they strike. And so, if you have a routine that you follow week after week, you will be a very good target for these individuals.

However, there are routines that you should continue to have in your life. For example, making regular calls to a friend or a family member at the same day of the week or the same time of the day can help. If your friend or family doesn\’t receive the call, they can suspect that something bad might have happened. And so, you can be helped.Cori N.
