What is Berrywork?

Our bodies consist of many different parts that act similarly to that of a mechanical object. Most of these are interconnected with the other parts of the body and thus react to any changes whether positive or negative. That is why even the tiniest organ of the body can cause major problems in the physical state of the human vessel.

Bodywork therapies are popular for their effectiveness in manually manipulating the whole body of a patient in the attempt to treat and heal its condition. There are various selections for a client when it comes to choosing the ideal therapeutic massage.

Berrywork, also known as the Berry Method is a manipulative physical therapy that is designed to correct abnormalities and changes in the natural position of any organ, tissue, and nerve back to its place. The bodywork is focused on addressing various problems through the body’s fascia.

The therapy uses successful techniques in relocating these essential elements of the human body. The methods used are done in slow and gentle movement that can stimulate and revitalize the area of the body being worked on by the therapist. The massage strokes and techniques involve the gentle stretching of the fascia which is located right under the skin. The stretching is done from a very gentle stretch which gradually increases in intensity as the therapy session progresses. The process though is done in a slow and quite comfortable manner. The treatment is not intended as a relaxing type of therapy due to the slight pain involved during the therapy sessions.

Berrywork therapy was developed by Lauren Berry Sr. who was a contemporary of Rolfing creator Ida Rolf. Berry is a physical therapist who was fascinated with how the body functions and respond similar to a mechanic. Eventually, he came up with his idea of the healing modality which was later known as the Berrywork or Berry Method. He believed that the body stores memories that are capable of triggering the body’s ability to treat itself by relocating the organs in their correct and natural places.

The therapy can be used in relieving muscle tension, adhesions, entrapped nerves, and in the treatment of conditions such as hernia, frozen shoulders, joint problems, neck pain, back pain, and spinal problems. Berrywork massage therapy is also beneficial in providing an enhanced lymphatic drainage that allows the human body to properly discharge harmful elements from within. It is also helpful in encouraging the improvement of circulation which is very important in achieving a completely healthy condition.

Although the therapy uses slow and gentle manipulation of the fascia and other areas of the human body including the repositioning of the internal organs, the treatment can leave soreness and pain on the physical body after each session. However, these are temporary painful experiences that will soon be replaced with a feeling of enlightenment from stiffness, tension, fatigue, and other unwanted body conditions. The total number of visits to the therapist is around 8 to 10 sessions in order to receive the full benefits and total recovery from the health issue.
