4 Things You Need to Know About First Aid Training
We all want to live in a safe world, away from bad news and casualties. However, life is not so smooth. Every now and then, we witness some accident, or someone in pain, and we wish we could have done something to relieve the person of the pain. Wishing for this, these days many people undergo a basic first aid training program, which enables you to perform first aid when the situation arises.
Many agencies offer short courses which certify you as a first aider. Here are 4 things you need to know about their training.
– You will be trained to handle human life
Those who are trained to provide first aid would tell you how it feels to be with a victim and play doctor to him till professional help arrives. A lot of issues will be on the first aider for those few minutes. What he does during that time and how he does it will reflect in the victim’s life later on. He needs to make sure the victim is not infected, for instance.
– You will be trained to be careful and sensitive
When someone is in pain, it is not right to further give him more unnecessary trouble. You will be required to make the right call and be sensitive to the victim’s condition. If he is a lot of trouble, be sympathetic and explain to him that what you would do could cause him pain, but it is for his own good. Talk to the victim and be careful about his condition.
– You will be taught skills that have to used at the right time
Use the right kind of treatment and don’t make mistakes in assessing the situation. There is only so much time available for you and the victim. Make the right calls. As a first aid provider, you will have certain skills that will be very helpful during emergency situations. You have the boon to be very useful to the society. At the right time, be ready to serve without hesitation. Keep your first aid kit stocked and ready. In case you don’t have the right materials, be resourceful and collect items as soon as possible. Gather support from any nearby crowd and be the leader.
– You will be trained to help, not play doctor
Always remember, being the first aider does not mean you get to play god. Take stock of the situation during emergency, judge well, initiate the first aid and immediately call for professional help. Once help arrives, inform the authorities of the steps you decided to take and put them on paper. Once you have handed over your duties to the professionals, you are relived.
Becoming a first aid provider is a huge thing. You have a duty to perform when needed. You should not get nervous and be very prompt. You will be required to judge well when there is very little time. If you think you can do all the above mentioned without getting nervous, you should consider training to become a first aider.
