EBook Explosion – New Technologies Conquer All

The latest and greatest in technologies isn’t always what you think they are. Sure, many people are flocking to get the latest smart phone, but there are other technologies that are right under the nose of the average consumer that are making major strides. One such technology that keeps pushing forward and is being adopted by millions of people is none other than eBook readers. With so many people purchasing these handheld devices, it’s no wonder that entrepreneurs, writers, and more are jumping on board with the fast growing epublshing business.

This new transition is nothing new to those that have obsessed with popular shifts in culture and media. Those that saw the transition from video recorders to digital video formats will be first to remind others that these shifts are inevitable. The numbers today are showcasing that epublishing is not going anywhere. There are 3 major players right now biding for attention, and those are: Nook, Kindle, and the Sony E-Reader. The aforementioned three options are just the three forerunners, but there are far more options on the horizon.

As people adopt tablet computing, publishers are quickly trying to publish their books in the digital format. These books are easier to read, lighter, and download easily onto a device within a few seconds. You could spend a lot of money and effort trying to build a physical library, but when it comes to moving or transporting, it’s going to be hard to carry more than a few books. Now, with stand alone platforms that are hand held, you can take everything you want with you, and in the palm of your hands within a few moments, start reading where you left off and enjoy new technology.

As it pertains to business, it’s interesting to see many writers, bloggers, and media moguls starting to publish on demand. You can now write a book and instead of signing a long-term publishing contract with all the hoops and hurdles that exist in trying to become the next big bestseller, you simply upload your manuscript and wait for people to come along and purchase it.

For those not familiar with the traditional publishing model, it’s simple. A publisher gives you an advance to write a book, they then print physical copies of the book and send them to book sellers. After the book sells roughly 10,000 or more copies to repay the advance you were paid, you start to see around $1 profit from each additional sale of the book, and that’s before the paperback comes out. If the book flops, then you fail, or if you fail to complete the book you have to return the fronted financial gains. There are millions of writers that put out books, and lose money when no one purchases the physical copies.

The difference between traditional methodology and the new world of epublishing business is simple. You don’t make physical copies, you simply upload and download media, which means you can profit from the sale of each of your eBooks, rather than having to sell a certain amount before seeing financial gains.
