Fitness – How Hard is it to Get Started?
There are millions of us who really want to improve our fitness level. One big consideration is cost. We\’ve all seen the many ads about all the fitness gear and equipment. It can be so overwhelming that we give up before we even start.
Cost is an important factor when planning an exercise program. However, any money spent on improving and maintaining your fitness level should be seen as an investment in you. The only way to have a good lifestyle is to be healthy. You can\’t be healthy without being physically fit.
Some of us want to invest in exercise equipment we can use at home. This is especially so for those who are very busy. Others simply prefer to exercise in private rather than at a public gym. If you do want exercise equipment then opt for what is easy to use. In order to stick with your program, you must enjoy using the equipment.
To find the right piece you must be prepared to spend time trying out various equipment. Buying your own equipment is the most expensive option so make sure you understand what you are buying, why you are buying it and exactly how to use it. Bear in mind that there are many people who buy equipment and sell it because they never use it. Good quality used equipment may be more sensible for your budget. Many budgets can\’t afford exercise equipment and many others don\’t enjoy using exercise equipment.
In order to be fit, you don\’t have to use specialty exercise equipment. Anybody can be fit. For example, instead of a treadmill or stationary cycle go for walks. However, you will need to invest in an appropriate pair of athletic shoes designed for walking. It\’s a good idea to get shoes designed for both walking and running. Many people progress from walking to running as their fitness improves.
Even if you want to do weight training it\’s not necessary to buy expensive equipment. Did you know there are lots of individuals who are making good use of old socks and bags filled with sand to build up and strengthen arm and leg muscles? Some are even recycling half-gallon plastic milk jugs into weights by filling with water.
Once you have your bought or recycled equipment you can concentrate on exercising. Always do mild stretching exercises before and after your routine. This will prevent strains and injuries.
Once you have warmed up, increase your pace of exercise for 2 minutes then slowly build up to 3 minutes then five minutes then 8 minutes then 10 minutes. Do this over time by listening to your body. Nausea, pain or shortness of breath means you need a break.
Even the smallest budget and some resourcefulness can accommodate a fitness program. The hardest part is to keep going when it feels uncomfortable or boring. The only way to overcome this is to keep your thoughts positive by reminding yourself of all the benefits of fitness i.e. strength, stamina, weight loss and less risk of developing heart disease and diabetes.
